Dhaulagiri Region:

This region is considered to be one of the remotest places in Nepal. An abundance of Himalayan peaks, including giant Dhaulagiri, hidden valleys and high passes are its main attractions for travelers. The region is separated from the Annapurna massif by the Kali Gandaki River. Here, the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna massifs, two huge mountain ranges, have formed the deepest gorge in the world. The trekking in this area is relatively strenuous but the trekkers who are willing to spend their holidays with nature in these peaceful surroundings are well rewarded.

Dhaulagiri Exploration Trek:

This is a long, difficult trek around Dhaulagiri that starts from Beni to the Kali Gandaki River. Follow the Myagdi Khola westwards to Darbang and turn north on a tiny trail that leads through forests into the high country. Much of the route is on snow and glaciers as it crosses French Col (5240 m), traverses the head of Hidden Valley and crosses 5150 m Dhampus Pass. The trek ends with a steep descent to Marpha and a return to the entire Dhaulagiri massif. Dhaulagiri is the sixth highest summit in the world and though its eastern aspects are a familiar sight to those traveling the Annapurna Circuit, much of the place surrounding this 60 Km (56 miles) wide massif remains an enigma. Due to its unique position at the western extreme of Nepal's cluster of really high mountains and the vast valley of the Kali Gandaki which passes right under its highest summit, the Dhaulagiri Himal generates its own unique weather systems.
