The route to Makalu Base camp is frequently used by the expedition teams and is not an easy or safe trek to do alone. Also, in contrast with many of the longer popular treks in Nepal, visiting Makalu usually means retracing your steps. Makalu forms the eastern edge of the Everest group, and unlike the other giants, it's possible to trek right up to its awesome mass uninterrupted by lesser peaks.
As a remote trek in the far east of Nepal, it provides some of Nepal's most unseen and amazing scenery deep into the eastern Himalayas. For experienced trekkers with a truly adventurous spirit, this high level traverse of Makalu region is one of Nepal's most challenging journeys of a lifetime.Begin your trek from Tumlingtar, follow the Arun river up to the upper Barun valley with an ever impressive mountain panorama from the high camp at 5,200 m and drop down through terraced fields and thick forests. We end our journey back at Tumlingtar. |
