Kanchanjungha 8586 meter - the third highest mountain in the world, as the queen of the Great Himalayas stands on the Nepal- Sikkim border high above rhododendrons and large forests with rivers pouring from its sides. Nepal opened the Kanchanjungha region to trekkers in 1988, though people have trekked in the area in connection with mountaineering expeditions since the turn of the century.
The Kanchenjunga region is the home of the Limbus. Relatives of the Rais, Limbus dominate the region east of the Arun Kosi and few live elsewhere.
This trek offers close-up views of both the north and south aspects of the peak leading through lush valleys to alpine yak grazing pastures and some of the most remote rails in Eastern Nepal. Walking through beautiful terrace fields and wild natural vegetation along the trail, breathtaking scenery of tower snow topped great Himalayan peaks including Mt. Everest, Kanchanjungha, Makalu, exploring Yalung glacier. Kanchanjungha is third highest peak of the world, one of the most remote and beautiful areas in Nepal which, unused to foreign visitors, still lies shrouded in mystery. The feature of the walk is pleasant villages then in the high regions, glorious mountains and abundant wild life. It is located in the extreme northeast corner of Nepal bordering Sikkim (an Indian state) to the east and China to the North. As this region is on the border of Nepal and the India state of Sikkim, so a circuit of the mountain is politically impossible.
The next best alternative is to visit both the north and south sides of the mountain from the Nepal side. On this Trek You will be meeting with musk deer, blue sheep and some time for the believer, the Yeti! This trek begins at Tumlingtar or Taplejung accessible by air, or Ilam or Basantpur accessible by road.
