Gangtey Trekking

Phobjikha Valley, at 3000meters is in one of the few glacier valleys in Bhutan. It is the chosen home of the rare black-necked cranes which migrate here in winter from the Tibetan Plateau. The valley of Gangtey is one of the most beautiful places in Bhutan and the Gangtey Gompa monastery is the only Nyingmapa monastery on the western side of the Black mountains. This moderate trek passes through the village of Gogona and Khotokha, through meadows and fields, then forest of juniper, magnolia and rhododendrons. One of the finest low level treks in Bhutan.

Day 1: Arrival - Paro.Upon arrival meet with our representative and transfer to hotel. Evening at Leisure. O/N Hotel At Paro
. Day 2: Paro - Thimphu. Morning visit Drukgyel Dzong, on the way visits Kychu Lhakhang. After lunch visit National Museum and Paro Dzong, P.M Transfer to Thimphu. O/N Hotel at Thimphu
Day 3: Thimphu - Gangtey Gompa. Morning visit Memorial Chorten, Painting School, National Library and after lunch transfer to Gangtey Gompa. O/N Guest House at Gantey.
Day 4: Gangtey Gompa - Halt. Excursion to Phobjikha valley where you can see the Black Neck Crane (rare species bird). O/N Guest House at Gangtey.
Day 5: Gangtey Gompa - Gogona. Start Trek! A Moderate trail leads through meadows and fields, then to the mixed forest of Juniper, bamboo and Magnolia. O/N Camp. Day 6: Gogona - Khotokha. A gentle climb leads to Shobjula (Alt: 3,500m) and then descends m). Walk down a long way through changing vegetation into the valley. You will reach the roadside where a car will be waiting for you. O/N Hotel at Wangdi.
Day 7: Thimphu - Paro. Visit Wangdi Dzong and Punakha Dzong. Also visit Chimi Lhakhang on the way to wide -open valley. O/N Camp. Day 8: Khotokha - Chuzomsa/Wangdi. A short climb to the Tashila Pass (Alti: 2,800 back. Later transfer to Paro across the Dochula Pass. O/N Hotel at Paro. Day 9: Paro - Airport for departure
